What is Teca?

Teca is an iOS app for record collectors and DJs. Photograph a sleeve and it identifies the exact pressing — label, catalog number, year and format — not just the album. It shows your collection as a 3D crate you flip through, syncs optionally with Discogs, keeps a wantlist built for use inside a shop, and plays a 30-second preview of each track. It is not a marketplace and does not sell records.

Why Teca? What problem does it solve?

Accepted Answer

The moment it is built for: you are in a shop holding a record you might already own, your collection is at home, and your wantlist is buried in a note. Discogs is a marketplace first, built around buying and selling. A spreadsheet does not work one-handed in a store. General music apps have no concept of a pressing, which is the detail collectors actually care about, since pressings differ in value and sound. Teca is built for using a collection rather than transacting on it.

Is Teca legitimate? Is it safe to join the waitlist?

Accepted Answer

The waitlist asks for an email, and a phone number only if you choose to give one. There is a specific privacy policy naming what is collected and why, and account deletion is self-service and documented on the support page. Discogs and Spotify access are both optional OAuth — Teca never asks for those passwords, you authorize on their sites and can revoke access there at any time. Teca is an independent private beta by one developer, not a funded company, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discogs, Spotify, Apple or Deezer.

Why is there a waitlist instead of a download?

Two external limits rather than artificial scarcity. Apple's TestFlight caps how many external testers a beta can have. And some integrations carry hard third-party ceilings: Spotify limited apps in its Development Mode to five authorized users in March 2026, and its Extended Quota Mode now requires a registered business with 250,000 monthly active users. The waitlist sequences invitations against those limits.

Does Teca sell records or take a commission?

No. Teca has no marketplace, no listings and no checkout. It does not sell records and takes no cut of any sale. It is free during the private beta and carries no advertising.

Question 6

Is Teca affiliated with Discogs?

Accepted Answer

No. Teca is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with Discogs. The optional Discogs integration uses their public API under their terms, with the user's own OAuth authorization, which the user can revoke from Discogs at any time.
